November 22, 2002, Newsletter Issue #66: Dealing with the Holidays

Tip of the Week

Yup, the holidays are here. Everybody around you is going to be a bit stressed. Accept that. Know that. If someone snaps at you, take a deep breath and don`t snap back. Instead, find ways to make the situation more soothing, both for yourself and for others.

Make sure you get a lot of food and water into you. It can be VERY easy while you`re rushing around to forget to grab a bite, which can make you VERY cranky. Been there, done that. If you stop to eat every once in a while, you`ll be amazed at how much more smoothly things go.

Leave some time out for just watching TV and relaxing. Everything doesn`t have to be done now. If chores are missed or things forgotten, it`s OK. The world won`t end. Let it slide. There are enough other weeks in the year to deal with scolding. For now, work around it.

For the next two weeks, try just looking for the good side of things. No matter what`s said, or done, try to look at it in the best possible light. Ignore any snideness or insinuation. Just smile and let it slide off of you, like water off the back of a duck. You`ll be amazed at how much more smoothly your life will go, and you`ll find that the snide people ease off when they realize their barbs aren`t being paid attention to.
